Pa and Ma Hughes Will "Pa" Hughes and his wife had three children, Chris Hughes, Edith Hughes, and John Hughes. John and Edith were fraternal twins. In 1975, many years after Ma Hughes died, Pa Hughes married his longtime love Irma Kopecki. Grandpa Hughes died in 1976. John Hughes drifted away from the family and got into frequent trouble with the law. With the help of Chris, he finally settled down and married Marion. He took over the family farm in Gilman, OH and Pa moved in with Chris. Edith Hughes enjoyed the single lifestyle and had no intentions of settling down. She had a torrid affair with a married man, Jim Lowell Jr.. This greatly upset her niece, Penny, who was best friend's with Jim's daughter, Ellen. Edith was devastated when Jim died in an accident. Edith eventually met and married Dr. George Frey. They moved to Seattle after they married. Chris and Nancy Hughes Chris Hughes married a school teacher named Nancy, who was from Kansas. He became a lawyer and joined the law firm of Lowell, Barnes & Lowell in Oakdale, IL. Nancy and Chris had four children, Donald Hughes was the oldest. Next came the two daughters, Susan Hughes and Penny Hughes. The youngest of the four was Bob Hughes. Their children would affect many lives in Oakdale for years to come.
