Leah Laiman

Leah Laiman began as ATWT's headwriter in June 1999. Laiman began writing for daytime in 1981 when she became an associate headwriter for General Hospital. While there she worked on the wedding of Luke and Laura. In 1984, she moved to Days of Our Lives where she was the headwriter. From 1989 to 1992, she worked for One Life to Live as co-headwriter. During this time she created Tribes, a soap opera for FOX. She has received five Emmy and four Writer's Guild Award nominations for her work.

In 1992, Leah turned her attention to writing romance novels. In 1994, For Richer, For Poorer, For Better, For Worse and To Love and To Cherish (a trilogy) were published. In 1995, another trilogy, the series Another Summer of Love was published.

In Spring 1998, Leah became headwriter for Another World. She held that position until the show's cancellation in June 1999.

Leah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Stern College of Yeshiva University in New York. She has a Master of Arts degree in theater from Hunter College in New York.

Leah was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. She is married to Ralph Toporoff. Leah, Ralph, and their daughter, Danielle, live in Manhattan.

Fun Facts:

  • Laiman's first Summer of Love trilogy was (coincidentally) set in Oakdale, Illinois.
  • Greg Watkins (ex-Evan Walsh) and Lisa Lawrence (ex-Sarah Kasnoff) were both cast members of Laiman's series Tribes.
