On stage, Tovatt appeared on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning revival of Our Town. He was a member of the original company of the American Conservatory Theatre (ACT) in San Francisco and spent parts of 14 seasons with the Actors Theatre in Louisville. Among the numerous produced pays that Tovatt has written are the Heideman Award-winning Husbandry which was performed at the Manhattan Theatre Club and was published by Samuel French, Inc.; and Bartok As Dog which was published by Dramatists Play Service and selected for Best Plays of 1984. Tovatt was the founding director of The Virginia Stage Company. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Theatre Communications Group in New York, whose publications include the American Theatre and which acts as an advisory service and lobbying group on behalf of American theater and the arts. Tovatt's television credits include contract roles on the daytime dramas Another World and Search for Tomorrow. He has also appeared in the mini-series Roots and the series Designing Women and worked as a contract actor for Universal, for which he appeared in many primetime series. In an unusual move for a creative talent, Tovatt lived in Kentucky from 1970 to 1987 to continue his family's tradition of raising cattle. Tovatt was born in Garrett Ridge, CO, and his birth date is December 11. He began acting, writing and directing for theater while attending high school in Muncie, IN. Tovatt attended Harvard and transferred to Antioch, where he studied playwriting. He later studied directing at The London Film School. When he is not at the ATWTset, the former folksinger/musician enjoys fly fishing and listening to various types of music. Patrick has one son, Daniel Anthony Tovatt. Related links:
