Stefan Schnabel originated the role of Stephen Jackson on Guiding Light in 1965. He played the role until 1981. Schnabel was born on February 2, 1912 in Berlin, Germany. His father, Artur Schnabel was a pianist. His mother, Therese Behr Schnabel, was a concert singer. The family moved to Italy in 1930. Schnabel moved to London in 1933. In 1938 Schanbel moved to New York and acted in thousands of radio programs. He served in the U.S. Army, then resumed his acting career. Schnabel appeared in theater productions of Around the World in 80 Days, Love of Four Colonels, and Social Security, along with numerous other productions. Schnabel married Marion Kohler and together they founded the Rainbow Theater in Norwalk, Connecticut. Schnabel appeared in over 20 different movies and guest-starred in a handful of television shows. Stefan and Marion moved to Italy in 1992. Schnabel has one brother, Karl Ulrich, who is a pianist. Marion and Stefan had two sons, Peter and David, and one daughter, Susan. In an interview from 1981 Schnabel commented on his soap opera success by saying, "As an actor, if your role on a soap opera is long-lasting, it's possibly the only financial security you know, and it enables you to more or less pick and choose what you want to do with the rest of your time." Stefan died of a heart attack at his home in Rogaro, Italy on March 11, 1999. He was 87. Related Links:
