- Rev. Matthews was Rev. Ruthledge's good friend from the seminary. Rev. Ruthledge asked his son-in-law, Ned Holden, to give Rev. Matthews his lamp when he died. Rev. Matthews was pastor of the Church of the Good Samaritan in Selby Flats and Ned brought him the lamp.
- Rev. Matthews was a radio character only. There is no known relation between Rev. Matthews and Calla Matthews, Gordon Matthews, or Jesse Matthews.
- Ray Brandon and Dr. Mary Leland were two of the people that Rev. Matthews knew. Dr. Leland was Meta Bauer's roommate and Mama Bauer's doctor.
- Before Rev. Matthews left Selby Flats he gave a large amount of money to build Cedars Hospital. Dr. Mary Leland and Ross Boling joined the hospital staff. Rev. Dr. Paul Keeler replaced Rev. Matthews at the Church of the Good Samaritan.
