Best and Worst of 1997

Between January 10th and January 16th, visitors to this web site were polled on the best and worst of 1997. The results can be seen on the Best and Worst of 1997 poll results page. Here are some of the more interesting comments sent along with poll choices. This is your opinion - what you had to say about the show last year:
Harley/Phillip:
- I think GL has struck gold with the pairing of Beth Ehlers and Grant Aleksander. These two are dynamite together. -AM
- Phillip and Harley are a great couple but get rid of that scheming Beth. -BE

Cassie Layne:
- Cassie is awesome...I want to see her and Reva build a strong relationship. I don't want them fighting!! They have waited so long and deserve some happiness. -JE
- Marry Cassie and Hart off real fast and have Cassie come up pregnant quickly and have that rubbed into Dinah's face. -AU
Nola/Buzz/Jenna:
- Hitting one of the finest actors in daytime and one of GL's most vibrant characters with this cliche is practically unbearable. -UN
- Like Nola could take Buzz from Jenna....yeah, right! There is no competition there. -JE
- Nola's thing for Buzz was pathetic. -LU
- I always loved Nola. Since the powers that be at Guiding Light were fortunate to get Lisa Brown to come back and play Nola, it would be nice if they would give her a decent storyline (not like the horrible one they gave her involving Buzz). -SE
Ben Warren:
- Roger should kill Ben and get away with it. -LU
Billy Lewis:
- Billy needs a woman, Nola needs a man to love her unconditionally, in walks big ole Billy. -MC
- Billy Lewis needs a mate. How about Nadine? Ok, so she's dead. That never stopped the writers before! -AN
Meg Reade:
- The Meg story line has stalled, and I understand, is about to die. What a shame! It was new, real, touching, and an opportunity to educate. -BI
Annie Dutton:
- Annie's relentless revenge story has dragged on ad nauseum. -MA
- KEEP ANNIE. Pay her what she wants. Everyone hates her. She is the one who keeps the show on the air. She definitely keeps viewers tuned in to see what is going to happen next. She is an excellent actress. We need her. -TW
Rick Bauer:
- I love the character of Rick Bauer. However, in 1997, he has become a joke! He's always angry and flying off the handle. I hope 1998 finds Rick calmer and thinking before he speaks! -MI
- Rick Bauer has turned into someone I can no longer admire, let alone sympathize with. I hope the writers soon realize that his obsession witht his child conceived during a drunken lapse of sensibility is unrealistic. Any attempts to tear a set of twin brothers apart will only be vicious, cruel, and disgusting. Please let it turn out that Ross is really the father of both twins and return Rick to a fun-loving, warm, witty, human being. -PR
Ross/Blake:
- Could they PLEASE give Ross and Blake a new house? Ross has "lived" on that set for what seems like 20 years. As actors, Jerry and Liz deserve a better background in which to showcase their talent. -CI
Josh Lewis:
- I think the writers should give Josh some storyline also beside being the object of desire and the supporting husband. -RA
Roger Thorpe:
- Bring Michael Zaslow back to play Roger Thorpe...let him play the character and have the character die, so Zaslow can be given the respect and recognition he deserves after creating the Roger Thorpe character. -YA
- Bring back Michael Zaslow to take Roger out of town. -MC
- A special award should go to Michael Zaslow for his portrayal of Roger Thorpe. -JO
Alexandria:
- I feel that firing Marj Dusay left the show with a hole that can not be filled with anyone else. -KI
Miscelleanous:
- Best GL actor to appear in an Excedrin commercial this year: Jeffrey Morgan! (Last year: Brent Lawrence; Year before that: Rick Bauer; for 98, looks like it'll be Jenna!) -UN
- Guiding Light has gotten a lot better this year. I hope everyone else realizes it's improvement as well. -GO
- Worst storylines in 22 years of watching. Not enough mystery and intrigue. I tape the shows and can watch 5 shows in 2 hours and not miss a thing. What a waste of the other 3 hours of air time. -JI
- The show is hard to watch, I fast foward most of it or just skip it, keep trying but it is hard to watch. -MS
- GL has seen notable imporvements in the last 6-8 months. This time last year it was a sad show to watch - everyone paired with the wrong person, ridiculous storylines, and not enough old favorite characters. Now I can't wait to get home to watch! -TE
- I wish there were more action. I miss the days when people would get stuck on an island and fall off cliffs, or when people get murdered and you have no clue as to who was the killer. -KA
- Bring back all the actors and actresses we've lost the last two year and apologize to them! -EA
- GL: The people who put the FUN in dysfunctional family. -JO
- I have been watching since 1983. This show has always been and will always be my favorite. I tape it daily to not miss an episode. 1997 was one of the best years...I can hardly wait to see what 1998 has in store! -KL
