Guiding Light in Italy

I'm a long-term Italian fan of Guiding Light (here the show is called Sentieri). Guiding Light is one of the most popular soaps in the world, thousands and thousands of people watch it……like me.

Since 1986 I have, I admit, been "obsessed" with Guiding Light. I started to watch it with my older sister and since than I've never stopped being a great fan of the show.

Almost all of my friends here in Italy watch GL and when we meet, we talk about it and we exchange opinions about the storylines and characters. In Italy GL is about 5 or 6 months behind the USA. Sometimes there are long breaks during the summer and at Christmas. It seems like we are behind a century as compared to America!

Another problem is the Italian dubbing. I'm convinced that the Italian version is completely different from the original. When I say this, it is because I've had the chance to see some episodes without dubbing. Believe me, some of the dialogue is very different.

Another difference between Guiding Light in the USA and Sentieri is the song played at the beginning of the show. Here in Italy the opening song is This Is The Time by Billy Joel.

You can see that in Italy GL is different in many ways, but I can say without any doubt, that all the Italian people that watch Sentieri love it and hate it in the same way as in America...and believe me when I say this, because I'm a girl who will never stop to see her favorite and beloved soap-opera, even if sometimes there are mistakes or absurd story-lines.
